Democrats Put Foreign Countries Before Floridians
Tampa, FL – Last week, Senate Democrats blocked Senator Scott’s Federal Disaster Responsibility Act. This bill would provide necessary funding to FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund so Floridians, and all Americans impacted by recent disasters, can receive the support and resources they need to recover.
The Federal Disaster Responsibility Act is supported by Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, the Florida Association of Counties, the Florida Sheriffs Association, Pinellas County Administrator Barry Burton, and numerous other Florida leaders. But Senate Democrats blocked this commonsense bill because it didn’t include funding for Ukraine.
Senate Democrats would rather fund foreign wars than help Americans recovering from natural disasters. And Washington Democrats’ favorite Senate candidate, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, is right there to cheer them on. These political games are a slap in the face to all Floridians – and Americans – who are rebuilding their lives after a disaster. Disaster relief funding for Americans should be unconditional. Unfortunately, Mucarsel-Powell and her friends in Washington believe that disaster relief must include funding for foreign wars.
Statement from Team Rick Scott Press Secretary Jonathan Turcotte: “Washington’s hand-picked Senate candidate is predictably repeating the talking points given to her by Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell needs to explain why she’d rather fund Ukraine than provide support to Floridians recovering from natural disasters. She clearly cares more about falling in with Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer than she does about helping Florida families rebuild their lives after a natural disaster.”
