NEW AD: Fact Check: FALSE — Delusional Debbie’s Latest Ad Shot Down

Rick Scott for Senate

TAMPA, Fla. – Today, Team Rick Scott released the following ad responding to former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s sad, completely delusional new ad in which the only fact she gets right is her name.

While Debbie continues to lie about Rick Scott’s record, the evidence is clear about how wrong she is. It’s sad to see a silly socialist get so desperate that she’s willing to lie to politicize a natural disaster that killed Floridians.

Senator Rick Scott has been endorsed by 60 Florida Sheriffs and nearly every law enforcement association in Florida thanks to his responsiveness to their communities, especially during natural disasters. To date, the former Congresswoman hasn’t been endorsed by anyone from Florida’s law enforcement community.

While Senator Scott and President Biden agree on virtually nothing, President Biden (who endorsed Debbie Mucarsel-Powell) applauded Senator Scott’s work on hurricane recovery and thanked him for giving him “the information he needed about what’s needed from the federal recovery effort.”

DEBBIE’S FACT CHECK

Another hurricane, more devastation,

This part is true, Debbie obviously watches the news. However, unlike Rick Scott, she did not travel to Florida’s Gulf Coast prior to the storm to help Floridians.  She was fundraising in NYC and sending fundraising emails/texts as Floridians were evacuating.

and Rick Scott is only making it worse.

FALSE. Contrary to rumors, Rick Scott is not in control of the weather.

Scott took 3 million from insurance companies

No. Rick Scott does not take money away from anyone. As a successful two-term Governor and U.S. Senator, people from nearly every single industry, county and city across Florida have donated to his campaigns.

Debbie also failed to mention that she has taken thousands of dollars in donations from insurance companies. If she is so worried about money from insurance companies, we’d assume she’s taking note from her fellow Democrats and donating these contributions to charity.

Aflac – 2020

and let them raise rates and deny claims.

Wrong again.

As he detailed in his op-ed for the Tampa Bay Times in September 2023, during his eight years as Governor of Florida, Senator Scott fought relentlessly to depopulate Citizens, returning it to a state of solvency, and attract new insurers to Florida that kept premiums affordable for Florida families. When Senator Scott ended his term as Florida’s Governor in January 2019, Florida’s property insurance market was more stable than it had been in more than a decade.

Debbie cannot point to a single shred of evidence or data to support her wild and unsubstantiated claims.

He even voted against billions in disaster relief funds.

No. He votes against terrible omnibus bills, but has consistently fought for standalone funding for FEMA and disaster recovery, which Chuck Schumer, who controls the Senate floor as Majority Leader, has refused to hold votes on.

I’m Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.

This is the only part of the ad that is true.

Rick Scott sold us out,

False. Rick Scott brought back insurers to the state as Governor and worked with the private market so rates could come down.

and now your property insurance bill is four times the national average.

Property insurance costs are a major issue in our state and Floridians expect leaders who will solve problems instead of scream insane lies. Rick Scott has outlined numerous solutions to deal with this problem.

It has to stop. I approve this message because natural disasters are bad enough without Rick Scott making it worse.

Debbie doesn’t know the first thing about telling the truth or what it takes to lead during storms. She’s backing an agenda that repeatedly puts illegals over Americans – there’s no other way to explain how FEMA has given over $1B to illegals, but doesn’t have enough aid to help Hurricane Helene victims. Yikes.
